Originally composed by Sarper Özsan for a play based on Maxim Gorky's The Mother , the song evolved under Grup Yorum into a soaring anthem for International Workers' Day. The story begins in 1985 at Marmara University in Istanbul. Four students, shaped by the shadow of the 1980 military coup, decided that silence was no longer an option. In a small room at the Ortakoy Cultural Centre, they formed (meaning "Interpretation" or "Commentary"), blending traditional Anatolian folk with a powerful, left-wing protest spirit.
