In this episode, the dark sorceress casts a powerful "maternity spell" on Kahlan , linking their physical fates. Because of this bond, any physical harm inflicted on Nicci is immediately felt by Kahlan, forcing Richard to protect the evil sorceress while they travel to the Stone of Tears.
