The film is set in 1937 near the border between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. It follows Marie (Cyndie Lundy), a young Haitian woman who is nine months pregnant and married to a Dominican man. Her life is upended when the Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo orders the immediate execution of Haitians—an event known as the Parsley Massacre .
