During the opening ceremony, Zero asks Suzaku Kururugi what it means to be "Japanese". When Suzaku answers that it is a matter of the heart, Zero releases a smoke screen. When it clears, every single one of the one million participants is dressed in a Zero costume.

A poignant moment shows Lelouch leaving a commemorative candle for Euphemia, indicating he still carries heavy guilt for the events of the first season.

It is revealed that Sayoko Shinozaki was on the iceberg ship and now knows Lelouch's true identity as Zero.
