Blondie - Denis (official Music Video) May 2026

The original song was written by Neil Levenson and inspired by his childhood friend, Denise Lefrak. For Blondie's version, the band swapped the gender of the subject, changing "Denise" to "Denis" (the masculine French spelling, with a silent 's').

"Denis" (1978) was the breakout international hit that transformed the American new wave band from New York punk underground favorites into global superstars. Released as the lead single from their second studio album, Plastic Letters , the song is a high-energy cover of the 1963 doo-wop hit "Denise" by Randy & the Rainbows.
